Befriending Week! 1st to 7th November

As it is befriending week, here are some quotes from our amazing befrienders and befriendee’s!

  • From an introduction to relative strangers at the beginning, I find I now feel I have acquired a whole new family, the like of which I have never before uncounted.
  • She is my lifeline, I don’t know how I would get through without her!
  • Words of ‘thanks’ can sometimes feel inadequate but I do feel an immense gratitude to all of the Friendship at Home team, who I have got to know and grown to love but especially toward my befriender who purely on a voluntary basis despite her job, study and other commitments, continues to visit me regularly each week and we have a real good chat.
  • Volunteering gives me a reason to get up in the morning. I have made new friends and feel valued.
  • Knowing I am making a difference. Knowing he is looking forward to my visit.
  • Yep, still doing weekly visits with KG! I’ve changed careers now so try see him more than once a week if I’m able to! I take my puppy with me and have done for the last 6 months and they’re the best of mates! KG acts like he doesn’t mind if I come by myself, but I know he loves it when I bring Dougie! It’s the best thing I’ve ever signed up to! I lost my grandparents on both sides at a young age, and I love the elderly and the stories they have! KG is full of them and his sound memory going back 90 years is just amazing! Walking out of his house I feel a sense of pride for myself, and I know how much it means to him as well which makes it all worthwhile, one hour of my week makes his entire week and that means so much! It’s definitely made me realize what we have around us and to appreciate the little things in life! I would meet KG sooner if I could’ve! The carers come in and ask if I’m family and I say no I’m a friend .. I get a funny look but it’s true I do feel like I’ve made a genuine friendship with someone 72 years senior! Thank you all for giving me and KG this opportunity to meet!

A special shoutout to all our amazing volunteers who continue to go above and beyond for our members! We really can’t say thank you enough for all that you do for Friendship at Home.
